Biography
Martina Ipša is one of the key pioneers of stand-up comedy in Slovenia. She has been performing continuously since 2005 and is currently considered to be at the peak of her creative form—sharper, more confident, and more accomplished than ever.
Over more than two decades, she has performed over 2,000 shows in three languages—Slovenian, Croatian, and English—earning a reputation as one of the best stand-up comedians in Slovenia and one of the strongest comedic voices in the region. Her comedy is rooted in intelligent observation, personal experience, and a direct, commanding stage presence.
Martina has created two television shows, written scripts for three theatre productions, co-written two feature-length film screenplays, and created three full-length stand-up shows. She has also worked in radio, including a period as a morning show host, and has contributed comedic content across various media platforms.
She has appeared in more than 30 episodes of Stand Up & More, broadcast on Comedy Central Extra, a show that continues to air internationally.
In 2017, 2019, and 2024, Martina recorded three television stand-up specials titled Stend Ap Presents: Martina Ipša, which aired on POP TV. All three specials received strong critical and audience responses. She also participated in the televised Roast of Martina Ipša, broadcast on POP TV.
Martina has performed at all major stand-up comedy festivals in Slovenia, including Festival Lent, Hit Stand Up, and Festival Panč, as well as at leading regional festivals such as Best of Regional Stand Up (Croatia), HT Stand Up (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and StandUp Fest (Serbia). She has toured and performed across Europe, including in Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Austria, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, and beyond.
In recent years, Martina has relocated to Dublin, Ireland, where she lives and performs regularly on the local stand-up comedy circuit, appearing at clubs and festivals throughout the city. She performs primarily in English and actively collaborates with the international comedy community. She has also been accepted into Trinity College Dublin, where she studies Drama and Directing.
In 2025, Martina won the stand-up comedy competition at the Dublin International Comedy Film Festival (DICFF), earning an invitation to perform in the United States, where she will appear as a festival winner in March.
Martina Ipša remains one of the most respected and versatile figures in Slovenian stand-up comedy—an author, performer, and creator whose work has shaped the local scene for over two decades while successfully expanding onto the international stage.
Her strength lies in daring to say out loud what others only whisper in the kitchen. Her resilience shows in her ability to remain human even when it would be easier to be cynical. And her humor? It isn’t cruel. It’s homely. A little sharp, a little warm—like life itself.
Ipša Martina is not a comedian who runs from the truth. She chases it, trips it up, knocks it to the ground, and then laughs at it a little more. Together with us. And that’s exactly why she’s great. Because she knows how to turn seriousness into laughter… and laughter into something deeply human.
